Road Traffic Casualties and Social Deprivation

Posted by Elisabeth Knight on November 9th 2006

Good Evening Minister

There is considerable research now to show links between casualties on the road and social deprivation - particularly where children are concerned. I would welcome your views on anything the Government can initiate to help us tackle this problem.

This question is now closed.

Thankyou. It's good to hear that you have a specific target as 'targets' have been of real use in reducing casualties in other categories.

In Hounslow we are currently investigating the links between deprivation and casualties at a local level and will look forward to the results of the work the govt. has already done when they are published.

You are absolutely right and indeed we do have a 'target' for reducing casualties in deprived areas. We have been helping local authorities with demo projects and we'll be publishing the lessons learned next year. Any other ideas that ROSPA members have on this subject will be gratefully received.
